Mini Wedding cake sample
This bride and groom wanted an idea of what their cake would look like so they paid me to make a mini cake to replicate what we will be doing on their large cake. They wanted color but were afraid it would be too much as most cakes are just white so this gave them the opportunity to see on a smaller more affordable scale. In the end they opted for a simpler all white design, but they enjoyed the fun of the purple on their mini cake.

Wedding Tasting cupcakes
It's always fun to make cupcakes for a wedding tasting. These were to have the happy couple try some of the great oreo cupcakes. It was a hit! Bride is having a hard time being convinced to offer any other flavor besides oreo. That's always a good sign.

Wedding Tasting
When you are preparing for a wedding you don't always know the baker or flavor of cakes/cupcakes you would like. A cake tasting is always a good way to figure it out. These were made for one of those. You get a sampling of styles to decorate as well as cakes and frostings in the flavors you are considering. As I am a small business and I bake on demand, not like a normal bakery where there is always some on hand, you have to request this.
I do charge a fee depending on the number of cupcakes and the amount of different cakes and frostings we are sampling. But that amount is credited towards your wedding if you book with me. If you don't...well you bought yourself some cupcakes to enjoy and I hope you did.
The tasting shown here had carrot cake and red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and heavenly frosting.

Flash Back Friday
Here's a flashback to my first wedding cake when I was taking lessons. We had a friend who was having a tiny reception with no money so she got this free cake. I was so proud of myself. Looking at it now, well I'm just glad she didn't have to pay for her wedding cake. I made the topper and everything. This was back 15 years ago. Styles sure have changed.

Ombre polka dot wedding cake
Polka dot wedding cake for a fun couple. I loved the colors and had fun putting each layer of the cake together.
But when I got there the others there to help set things up wanted the cake raised though that hadn't been set up so I didn't have anything to raise the cake. In trying out several things they had in the kitchen we ended up using this bowl. But by the time we had moved it several times it didn't sit as straight as it had when I first set it up. It still looked pretty just not quite as straight as it was before they started moving it all over.
I hope to get some pictures of them cutting the cake as the inside was polka dotted also. But here are the reject ones to show you what it was going to look like inside.

My brother's wedding cake
As you can see by the date on the picture, this was from several years ago...but here is the cake I made for my brothers wedding. My sister in law still thinks its the best wedding cake I ever made. That's what I pray every bride thinks that I do a wedding cake for. Thanks for letting me share such a great part of a great day for your family.

Basket weave wedding cakes
Here's a couple wedding cakes from several years ago. These both feature the basket weave technique. It's fun to look back through all the cakes I've done over the years and follow the trends.

Wedding cake to cry over
After hours of working on this wedding cake, it was all done and pretty. I left to pick kids up from school and came home to this! I wanted to cry! Luckily I had the cake done the night before the wedding so I had time to stay up and redo it with different frosting and smaller ruffles.
In the end it turned out beautifully again...and held up the second time. But man was my hand sore!
This is my cute daughter helping at the wedding with some of the other desserts.
And they cut the cake. Tasty! Loved and enjoyed by many Thanks for letting me be a part of such a wonderful day!

Brides and Grooms cakes
So this post is about Brides cakes and grooms cakes. Both cakes shown here are from years ago and long before I could take decent pictures of my cakes. But it's fun to talk a little about the tradition of brides cakes and grooms cakes. This is the fun way it was taught to my daughter and she loved to share this with me. So I will share it with you in the way she learned it. Long, long ago, weddings served rich wonderful cakes and desserts at a wedding. A rum cake, a chocolate cake etc. Then pulled sugars and delicate cakes became the rage for those who had the money to affod them. Only the elite could have a fancy delicate cake. But people found they didn't taste as good as the old cakes that they had. So the tradition began that the brides family did a beautiful delicate cake that all could see and be impressed with. But the grooms family provided a second cake that was rich and decadent and all wanted to eat. Today, not as many continue the tradition of the grooms cakes. Part of this I believe is that we can do so much more with the "delicate pretty cake" and have it taste good inside. But here is an example from years ago of a wedding that I did that did have a brides cake and a grooms cake. The top one had flowers added by a florist later. The bottom one the leis were not put on quite straight leaving the cake looking crooked from this angle. But before digital cameras if you weren't an amazing photographer you didn't know this until a few weeks later when you got your prints developed as happened here.

Pink and Red Wedding Cupcakes
For this wedding in addition to making the cake and decorating the cookies I decorated the cupcakes. We had a lot of fun with the great Valentine's Theme of the wedding.

Wedding Sugar Cookies
With the enlisted help of my friend Sariah and at times my daughter we decorated 14 dozen sugar cookies the day of the wedding. We also did cupcakes and I did the cake...those pictures will be in other posts.
